Uniview 16-Channel NVR, 2 SATA Interfaces, 1U, H.265, 16MP

The Uniview 16-channel NVR is a network video recorder designed for IP camera surveillance. An NVR works with network cameras rather than analogue cameras: it receives digital video streams over the network, records them to storage drives and makes them available for live viewing, playback and export. This model offers sixteen channels, so one unit can record up to sixteen cameras.
The recorder is built in a 1U chassis. The term 1U refers to one rack unit, a standard height of 44.45 mm in a 19-inch equipment rack. This makes the unit suitable for server rooms, network cabinets and comms closets where space is limited and a neat installation is expected.
Key features
- 16 channels for connecting IP cameras
- 2 SATA interfaces for hard drive storage
- 1U rack-mount height
- H.265 video compression support
- 16MP camera resolution support as listed by the supplier
Storage and recording
Recording quality and duration depend on the camera settings, the video resolution and frame rate, and the capacity of the installed drives. The two SATA interfaces allow hard drives to be fitted inside the recorder. Before purchase, plan the drive capacity needed for the number of cameras and the number of days of footage you want to keep. Enterprise or surveillance-rated drives are commonly used for continuous recording, but check the NVR documentation for supported drive types.
Video compression
H.265 is a newer video compression standard. Compared with older codecs, it aims to deliver similar picture quality at a lower data rate. For a recorder this can mean less storage used per camera and less network bandwidth needed between cameras and the NVR. The actual saving varies with scene content, so test the settings on your own system.
Network and management
The NVR connects to the local network, where it receives video from the cameras. Once set up, it can usually be viewed and managed from a computer, and configured by the installer or IT team. Network design, IP addressing and camera compatibility should be checked before installation, as they depend on the rest of the system.
Typical uses
- Shops and retail premises
- Offices and business sites
- Warehouses and logistics areas
- Schools, campuses and public buildings
- Car parks and perimeter monitoring with compatible cameras
This recorder suits projects that need a central, rack-mounted unit to record a group of network cameras. It is equally useful for new systems and for expanding an existing camera network.
Before you buy
Confirm the number of cameras, their resolution and the recording period you need. Check that the cameras and any other equipment in the system are compatible with Uniview NVRs. Make sure the hard drives you plan to use fit the two SATA interfaces and are suitable for continuous recording. Also check the power, cabling and rack space available at the installation site.
