RJ45 CAT5/CAT6 Pass-Through Plastic Connector

RJ45 CAT5/CAT6 Pass-Through Plastic Connector

The RJ45 CAT5/CAT6 Pass-Through Plastic Connector is a standard modular plug for terminating Ethernet network cable. It is designed for CAT5 and CAT6 cable, the two cable grades most commonly used for wired computer networks, office LANs and home networking.

As the name suggests, this is a pass-through connector. The cable is fed all the way through the plug so that the wire ends stick out at the front, where they can be trimmed and seated in the contact order before crimping. This makes it easier to get clean, well-aligned terminations than with plugs that require the conductors to be inserted from the back.

The connector is made from plastic and is intended for use with a standard RJ45 crimping tool. It suits installers, IT staff and anyone who needs to make or repair network patch cables, extend a cable run or fit a plug to a length of bulk cable.

Typical uses include creating patch leads between a switch and a wall socket, connecting a computer, printer or network device to a router, and repairing a damaged cable end. It can also be used for building custom-length cables when off-the-shelf lengths do not fit the installation.

To get the best result, strip the outer jacket carefully, arrange the wires in the correct colour order for your wiring standard, trim them flat and then crimp the plug firmly. Test the finished cable with a network cable tester before it is put into service.

RJ45 CAT5/CAT6 Pass-Through Plastic Connector for Network Cable Termination

The RJ45 CAT5/CAT6 Pass-Through Plastic Connector is a modular plug for making and repairing Ethernet network cables. It is intended for use with CAT5 and CAT6 twisted pair cable and fits the standard RJ45 socket used by computers, switches, routers, printers and many other network devices.

Network cables are only as reliable as their terminations. A well-made plug keeps each conductor in the correct position and makes firm contact with the socket, while a poor one can cause intermittent faults, slow speeds or no connection at all. This pass-through style of connector is designed to help with that by letting the installer see the wires clearly before crimping.

Key features

  • Pass-through design: the cable runs fully through the plug, so the conductors can be checked and trimmed before crimping
  • Suitable for CAT5 and CAT6 Ethernet cable as described by the supplier
  • Standard RJ45 modular plug format for common network sockets
  • Plastic body
  • Designed to be used with a standard RJ45 crimping tool

Specifications

  • Product type: RJ45 modular plug, pass-through style
  • Cable types: CAT5 and CAT6 network cable
  • Body material: plastic
  • Connector format: RJ45 (8-position)
  • Category: Cable, Networking Cable

Please check the product packaging or the supplier documentation for any further details, such as the exact pin count or the number of pieces supplied.

Preparing the cable

Start by stripping about the length recommended for your plug and tool, taking care not to nick the insulation on the individual conductors. Untwist the pairs as little as possible, then arrange the wires in the colour order of the wiring standard you are using, most commonly T568A or T568B. Keep the wires flat and parallel, and trim them so the ends are even.

Because this is a pass-through connector, the cable is pushed through the plug until the wire ends reach the front. Check that the jacket is inside the plug body where the strain relief sits, and that every conductor is in its correct slot before you crimp.

Crimping and testing

Insert the plug into the crimping tool and squeeze firmly until the tool fully closes. Remove the finished cable and inspect the contacts. Use a network cable tester to confirm continuity and wire order on every pin before connecting the cable to live equipment. Replace any cable that fails the test rather than trying to repair it again.

Typical uses

This connector is useful in a range of practical situations:

  • Making custom-length patch leads for offices, homes and server rooms
  • Fitting a new plug to a cable that has been cut or damaged
  • Extending a cable run with bulk cable and a reel of Ethernet wire
  • Building cables for security cameras, access control units and other networked devices
  • Maintaining existing networks where standard pre-made leads are not available in the right length

Who it is for

The connector suits IT technicians, network installers, electricians working on structured cabling and keen DIY users who are comfortable with basic cable work. Anyone new to crimping should practise on spare cable before working on an installed network.

With careful preparation and a good crimping tool, the RJ45 CAT5/CAT6 Pass-Through Plastic Connector provides a simple and dependable way to finish Ethernet cables for everyday networking needs.
